ANAHEIM (California): Fisker has launched sales of its Karma sedan, after receiving certification from US authorities.
The eco-friendly automaker confirmed on Tuesday that the Karma Sedan, a plug-in hybrid vehicle powered by both a battery and petrol engine, is now on sale through its US dealer network.
The model was given a 51km all-electric range by the US Environmental Protection Agency, 5km under that of the Chevrolet Volt, a similar range-extended vehicle which sells for US$39,145 (RM122,000).
After that distance, the Karma's 2.0-litre petrol engine kicks in to power a generator, offering a fuel economy of 4.52l/100km.
The model costs from US$95,900 (RM299,000) in the US and from 85,500 euros (RM367,000) in Europe, where it is already available - last week, the first model sold in Britain was snapped up by an auction buyer for 159,770 euros (RM686,000), more than double its market value.
It boasts a top speed of 201kph and a 0-100kph time of 5.9 seconds operating in its high-performance 'Sport Mode', which uses the combined power of the battery and petrol engine.
Meanwhile, the world's most famous hybrid car, the Prius, has some upsetting news for Toyota after a compact version of the hybrid was uncovered ahead of schedule.
from an internal Toyota magazine leaked onto the Internet this week, apparently showing the final product shots of the Prius C, a compact model which goes by the name Aqua in Japan.
The details, obtained by the Carscoop
blog, purport to show a model which is just slightly bigger than the latest Yaris, at 3,995mm long, 1,695mm wide, and 1,445mm tall.
It will feature a 1.4-litre four cylinder engine with a hybrid drivetrain, capable of managing 2.8l/100km, says the blog's report (albeit on the Japanese driving cycle).
From the looks of the piece, customers may also be able to customize the look of the cabin with different upholstery and colored trims, although this may be a Japan-only feature.
The model is set to officially debut in Japan at the Tokyo Motor Show in December, followed by a US premiere in Detroit in January, building on the concept families showcased by the brand at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. - Relaxnews
