ETCM has brought in 10 units of the LEAF for the “Journey to Zero Emission” project which underscores the company’s support for the Malaysian government initiative to promote green technology and ensure sustainable development.
Malaysia is the first country in Asean to offer such LEAF ambassador programme.
The LEAF - stands for “Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family” cars and look like any other car except it does not have a petrol filler cap nor an exhaust pipe.
The LEAF has been on sale in a number of countries since December 2010.
The car is powered by an electric motor with 80kW and 280Nm of torque, and its lithium ion battery packs provide enough energy to drive the LEAF for 160km on a single charge.
ETCM executive director Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng said the company had received more than 800 applications from the members of the public for the ambassador programme.
“It was not easy to select the ambassadors as we had received many quality applications. However, there is still an opportunity to became ambassadors as we are still selecting people for the programme,” he said at the handover of the LEAF keys to the four ambassadors today.
