Police probe for negligence in death of boy left in car
JOHOR BARU: Police will investigate for negligence the death of a five-year-old boy who was left in the car by his mother for several hours.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said he understood the grief of the mother but police have to investigate the case.
"We will investigate the case under Section 31 of the Child Act for negligence.
"We have yet to record the statement of the mother but we will try to complete the papers as soon as possible," he told reporters here.
DCP Mohd Mokhtar said the public prosecutor would decide whether to charge the mother.
"This is also a reminder to all parents to always put the safety of their child first," he said.
It was reported that the 40-year-old mother, who works as a teacher, had left the child sleeping in the back seat of her car at 7.30am on Tuesday.
At 1.30pm, she suddenly remembered the child and rushed to the car but the child was already dead.
