TAIPING:Toyo Tyre Malaysia has opened its latest plant in Perak, which is set to be the largest Toyo facility outside of Japan once full production capacity is achieved in two years.
The RM800mil plant in Kamunting, located on a 148-acre site, will make performance and quality tyres for passenger cars, MPV, SUV / 4 x 4 tyres.
The new plant was launched by Toyo Tire & Rubber Co Ltd chairman Kenji Nakakura.

It would contribute to Toyo’s global ambition of supplying 45 million tyres (55% increase in current production) by 2015 to Japan, North America and Asia.
Nakakura said that of the targeted 45 million tyres to be produced, 26 million would be allocated for Japan while 12.5 million will be for Asia and the remaining 6.5 million will be headed to North America.
The Malaysian facility will initially contribute 2.5 million tyres, and this figure will be doubled in the next two years, eclipsing Toyo Tires’ China production capacity of 1 million tyres.
According to Toyo Tyre Malaysia managing director Kanji Kasai, 85% of the 5 million tyres to be made will be exported to South-East Asian markets, the Middle East, Europe and the United States.
