KUALA LUMPUR: Ducati Multistrada 1200 which combines four types of riding experience in a single motorcycle is finally available in Malaysia.
First revealed at the 2009 Milan International Motorcycle Show, the Multistrada allows its rider to choose four different settings — sport, touring, urban and enduro — with the click of a button.
In an instant, the Multistrada can be set for sportsbike performance, true long-range touring abilities, easy commuting or off-road.
Besides engine power and torque delivery, the suspension settings and traction control are electronically adjusted to meet the rider's needs on the particular terrain and riding conditions.
The base Multistrada is offered with optional anti-lock braking system (ABS), while the flagship Multistrada 1200S comes with ABS and Ducati Electronic Suspension, by Ohlins, as standard equipment.
The Ohlins suspension's compression and rebound damping rates are adjustable electronically.
The 1200S is available in the ''Sport'' edition with specific components made of carbon fibre, or the ''Touring'' edition complete with side luggage, heated grips and centre stand.
Its 150bhp 1.2-litre engine, which uses throttle-by-wire technology, is adopted from the world-championship winning Ducati 1198 and promises smooth power delivery with low emissions.
The introduction of a new valve seat material in the engine and improved combustion efficiency and temperature management has enabled major service schedules to be doubled to 24,000km.
Optional accessories include side boxes, satellite navigation kit and carbon fibre parts.
