Peugeot 508 launched

KUALA LUMPUR: Nasim Sdn Bhd, the local distributor of Peugeot vehicles, has launched the internationally-acclaimed and award-winning 508 premium executive sedan which features Peugeot’s new design direction with a less pronounced floating grille.

Described as the ‘Best New Car of 2011’ by the UK’s Fleet World magazine, the new 508 comes with streamlined contours that are elegant and classy.

It also gets bi-xenon headlights with washers, automatic angle adjusters and signature circular LED daytime running lights.

The headlamps also feature a smart beam function which uses an intelligent camera to analyse lighting conditions to automatically switch to high beam when needed and revert back to the low beam if there is on-coming traffic.

At the rear, three red clusters mask three rows of LEDS to give the car a unique signature at night.

The black lacquered centre console and the touches of chrome on the fascia along with advanced technological equipment enhances the overall ambience in the 508.

Among the luxury features inside the 508 include a colour head-up display unit, four-zone air conditioning, push-start ignition, automatic electric parking brake, electric-powered seats for the driver and passenger and intuitive control knob in the centre console that operates the 7-inch HD multi-function colour screen, USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

Entertainment system is a 10-speaker JBL hi-fi system with a 500W surround sound amplifier with Arkamys audio.

It’s keyless entry system allows the driver to lock or unlock the 508 by simply brushing his or her hand over one of the door handles with the smart key still in their pocket or handbag while the trunk offers a generous luggage space of 545 litres.

Powering the 508 is an award-winning efficient and eco-friendly high-precision twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-litre engine which produces 156bhp and 240Nm of torque coupled to a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with steering mounted paddle shifters.

Fuel consumption is rated at a low 7.1-litres per 100km (on a mixed cycle) and contributed by its optimised aerodynamics with a low coefficient drag of 0.26.

The 508’s front MacPherson type struts and rear multi-link suspension system provide handling accuracy and vibration damping for a high-level of road holding and ride comfort.

Other features include a Hill Assist system, front and rear parking assists that are displayed on the multi-function colour screen and an Available Space Measurement (ASM) system which aids the driver in parallel parking.

Standard equipment includes six airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, Anti-Skid Regulation and Dynamic Stability Control which results in a 5-star Euro NCAP rating for the premium sedan.

“This premium luxury sedan encompasses everything Peugeot is famous for – class, character and panache. It is truly a remarkable sedan with emotion at the heart of it all,” said Nasim chief executive officer Datuk Samson Anand George.

He said the European car market had grown exponentially in Malaysia this year as consumers were more discerning.

“They want something classy yet exciting and dynamic. The all-new 508 is a modern and forward-looking vehicle that meets these requirements,” said George.

Even prior to its launching today, Nasim had received over 100 bookings for the sedan.

Priced at RM169,888 (on-the-road with insurance), the 508 also won the 2010 Auto Trophy in Germany where it was voted for the top award in the Import category ahead of 18 other models.
