PETALING JAYA: The highly praised Chevrolet Colorado has made its official debut in Malaysia.
Imported by Naza Quest Sdn Bhd, the all-new Colorado is built on nearly a century of Chevrolet truck building heritage and engineered with a great combination of good-looks, power, durability, comfort and economy.
The Colorado is the product of a five-year, US$2bil (RM6bil) vehicle development programme and has been designed for customers in more than 60 markets around the world.
It has already hit the roads in Thailand, the largest truck market in the world, and is the recipient of numerous awards hailing it as among the best trucks on the road today.
It has been tested vigorously over 2.5 million kilometres and is to date GM Thailand’s largest-ever engineering and manufacturing programme.
New from the ground up, the Colorado is bigger than its predecessor but retains Chevrolet’s now iconic Duramax turbo-diesel engine.
Based on GM’s global body-on-frame, rear-drive midsize truck architecture, the Colorado leads its class in terms of safety and power.
Contributing to the safety of driver and passenger are a host of electronic safety nets that are not available on any other pick-up truck, such as Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Traction Control, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Cornering Brake Control as well as dual airbags for the driver and front passenger.
Malaysians have a choice of two turbo-charged power plants, a 2.5-litre turbo diesel or a 2.8-litre turbo diesel with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Both engines are based on Chevrolet’s proven 6.6-litre V8 Duramax engine found only in the US market, and provide best-in-class power and torque outputs with equally impressive fuel economy and durability.
The 2.8-litre four-cylinder 16-valve engine churns out 180hp at 3,800rpm and 440Nm of torque at 2,000rpm when mated to the manual transmission.
With the automatic transmission, the torque curve climbs to 470Nm at equal rpm’s. On the other hand, the 2.5-litre engine produces 150hp at 3,800rpm and 350Nm of torque at 2,000rpm and is only available with manual transmission.
Designed to deliver high torque at low rpm, the engines have also been designed to be extremely efficient, resulting in best-in-class fuel economy, the 2.5-litre engine sips just 8.4-litres of diesel per 100km while the 2.8-litre engine’s need between 8.5 to 9.2-litres per 100km.
As for the interior, the larger overall dimensions of the all-new Colorado means more space for the driver and passengers.
The signature "dual cockpit" front console is based on the legendary Chevrolet Corvette while the design of the meter cluster is based on the Chevrolet Camaro. All displays are back-lit with Chevrolet’s signature LED Ice-Blue illumination.
In addition to space and comfort, the Colorado also offers such features as cruise control, a 2-DIN audio system, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and MP3 compatibility, all supported by a six-speaker system.
The Chevrolet Colorado will only be available in double cab variant in Malaysia and is priced from RM90,267 for the 2.5-litre, RM96,008 for the 2.8-litre manual and RM106,008 for the top of the range 2.8-litre automatic.
Deliveries of the Colorado, launched on Thursday, are expected to begin from April.
