GTA Spano: A Spanish exotica

SINGAPORE: The GTA Spano supercar might not be as well-known as Ferraris or Lamborghinis but this Spanish exotic is gifted with a breathtaking performance that can shame many of its contemporaries.

Thanks to a 8.3-litre V10 engine with an astonishing 820bhp and 960Nm of torque built into an ultra rigid and light-weight chassis made from carbon fibre, titanium and Kevlar, the Spano can scorch the 0-100kph sprint in 2.9 seconds.

With a top speed of over 350kph, the Spano is also said to be among the top five fastest production car in the world.

If not all 820bhp are needed, there is an on-board electronic power regulator that allows drivers to dial down the car’s power to 450bhp for a more “leisurely” drive.

To rein in the enormous power, brakes are the 380mm carbon ceramic type with six pistons while the front and rear tyres are 19- and 20-inch respectively made specially by Pirelli.

Its sharp sloping bonnet, curved roofline and oversized rear hunches give it a classic supercar look.

The low slung Spano also comes with adjustable suspension that raises the car by 8cm to clear speed bumps and access steep ramps.

Transmission can be either a seven-speed automatic sequential type with paddle shifters or a seven-speed manual sequential.

GTA Motor chief executive officer Domingo Ochoa recently held a presentation of the Spano to a select group at the residence of the Spanish ambassador to Singapore, Federico Palomera.

Palomera said he was pleasantly surprised by the Spano’s high level of technology and predicted a promising future for it in Asia.

Priced at 570,000 euros (RM2.26mil) plus tax in Spain, only 99 units of the Spano will be made to ensure exclusivity.
